Chemical Peel

What is a Chemical Peel

It is a solution that is applied to the skin to penetrate the epidermis and cause an exfoliation of the skin cells. Within 1 to 14 days, your skin will shed and reveal radiant and softer skin. We offer 2 types of chemical peels, the Glycolic solution and Jessner solution. Factors that affect the depth of both of these peels include the acid concentration of peeling agents, number of coats applied, and the amount of time allotted for the acid to neutralize.

How long do you wait in between treatments:

Depending on the type of peel, your skin needs an average of 5 to 7 days to heal. We recommend spacing your chemical peel treatments at least 2 weeks apart.

What can you expect after this treatment?

Chemical peels are designed to wound and remove the upper layers of the skin. You need to prepare yourself for how your skin will look immediately after the peel and throughout the healing process. You also need to be prepared to use cosmetics to blend skin tones between treated and untreated areas, such as between the face and jaw line. During the early healing period after a chemical peel (before the skin has finished peeling), you will need to avoid sun exposure. After the early healing period has passed, you will need to wear sunscreen every day and limit sun exposure as much as possible. New skin is more susceptible to damage and discoloration from sunlight.

How long does this treatment take?

Anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of area that you cover. We recommend that you refrain from using antibiotics, sun bathing, or tanning 1 week prior for a safer treatment.
